Five Questions with Gavin Moynihan
We caught up with Gavin Moynihan as he prepares for his first season on the European Tour following a successful year on the Challenge Tour and Q School qualification last November.
Gavin begins his European Tour season this week down in Australia at the ISPS Handa World Super 6 event.
We asked Gavin five questions……
Favourite golf course is PGA Catalunya. One of the toughest courses I’ve played but very fair. If you play well you can shoot under par but if your just off you can really shoot a high number. Always a decent wind there so you really have to be in control of your ball. Was a great venue for final stage of Q school pity it’s not still there.
Favourite golfer has to be Tiger Woods. Wouldn’t watch that much golf on the Television but when he came back in Bahamas in December and few weeks ago at Torrey I was glued to the TV. The way he’s dominated the sport and some of the shots he’s pulled off have been in incredible. US open 2008 final hole putt and Masters 05 up there in greatest moments in sport.
Favourite club for me is my 60 degree lob wedge. It’s My go to club inside 80 yards. My wedge play would be my strength but when I have the lobber in my hand just feel very comfortable. Can play variety of different shots with it like low spinners, fades, draw, high soft ones. Ever since I was young it’s always been my favourite club.
Favourite round of golf has to be the final round at the Irish Open in Portstewart last year. Played with Matteo Manassero. We were like 6th or 7th group off. Bit of rain and wind to start the day but cleared up an bit throughout the round. Was 3 under for the front 9 playing lovely, great par saves on 10 and 11. Then birdied 12, 13 and then eagled 14. Held 40 footer across green on 17 and a clutch 14 footer on last for par for a 64. It’s my lowest round as pro and was delighted it was at an Irish Open. Class day
Tiger Woods, Seve Ballesteros & Jack Nicklaus
